Parida crowned State Open chess champion

Experienced campaigner and local favourite Manas Ranjan Parida won the title in the State Open Chess Championship, which concluded here at Secretariat Recreation Club today. Parida scored 8.5 points in the nine-round tournament, which was organised by Orissa State Chess Association (OSCA).

A total of 112 players from 19 districts participated in the three-day tournament. Sujeet Kumar Nayak finished runner-up with 7.5 points. Puri District Chess Association secretary Dr Bimal Prasad Mohanty gave away the prizes in the presence of OSCA vice-president Arati Bijoy Mohanty, games director Debasis Panigrahi and Orissa Secretariat Recreation Club general secretary Managovinda Dalei.
